Good evening, CC-ARES!
I did not get as much done this week as compared to last because I got some vaccinations on Monday, but here goes.
I started work preparing what I thought were three Mikrotik hAPac3 home Access Point/Router/Switch units. After having no success, I looked closely at the units with a magnifying glass and discovered that they were not ac3 units but were ax3 units which would not work so I ordered four ac3 units taking great care to ensure that I did not miss anything.
I flashed the four hAPac3 units with the latest AREDN firmware and got them up to a minimal usable configuration. I have prepared them for each of the three park Incident Command site packages and one for the EOC to replace the current hAPac Lite unit in operation there.
These units give great flexibility and extra capacity for where we need it. They enable us not only to connect our computers to the AREDN Mesh network, but also IP cameras, VoIP phones, soft phones for video conferencing and much more. In fact, sending our messages using Telnet Post Office over the AREDN Mesh will be our standard which frees up our VHF/UHF radio for voice operations.
I will be setting up our Go-Box equipment at my house on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week so that CC-ARES members can come and work with the equipment to become familiar with it. The hours for both days will be from 11am until 2pm. This will help us to be ready to rock on Thursday’s. exercise. I hope to see you here!
Please take a few minutes at home to make sure that your Winlink account is up to date or, if you do not yet have a Winlink account, establish one and become familiar with it.
That is all from here. I look forward to a productive experience this week. I wish you all a good and productive week. 7-3 and see you soon. This is AJ7C.
